Many members of YFGM take on voluntary roles that help facilitate our events and support our community.
We use the Quaker nominations process (Faith & Practice 3.22-3.25) to appoint people to these roles. You can find out more about how the nominations process works at YFGM in our Nominations Process document. A PDF version of the Service Information Form is also available.

The Quintessential (or ‘Quinty’) committee are YFGM’s equivalent of elders, with responsibility for nurturing the spiritual life of YFGM. This includes organising spirituality sessions at YFGM and promoting the right ordering of our business sessions.

The Nominations Committee work to identify and discern the right individuals to perform roles on behalf of YFGM. These include memebrs of YFGM committees, participants at YFGM-related activities, and YFGM representatives on other bodies.

The Outreach Committee are responsible for providing information about YFGM to Quakers and others, and encouraging attendance at YFGM and other Young Friends events.

The Clerks are responsible for clerking the business sessions of YFGM, and representing YFGM to the wider world. The Clerks are also Trustees of YFGM.
The Convenor of Trustees is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the Trustees as a committee.
The Finance Trustee works with Finance Committee and takes lead responsibility for financial management and the preparation of annual accounts.
The Management Trustee is responsible for overseeing the YFGM Office and the YFGM Coordinator. They provide the direct link between the legal responsibility that the YFGM trustees take on and the day-to-day management of the co-ordinator and the office.
The Quintessential Trustee provides a link between the Quintessential committee (see above) and the Trustees.
The Overseer Trustee provides a link between the Overseer committee (see above) and the Trustees.
The General Fund Treasurer is responsible for ensuring that an analysis of the costs and income of the previous YFGM is available at each YFGM and to inform
relevant parties if costs and income are not on target to balance by the end of the year.

Finance Officer – see Trustees
The Interchurch / Interfaith Secretary is responsible for representing YFGM to other churches and faiths, and bringing a greater understanding of other churches and faiths to YFGM. This role also sits on the Outreach committee.

The International Secretary acts as YFGM’s connection to the international Young Friends community, particularly European and Middle Eastern Young Friends (EMEYF). This role also sits on the Outreach committee.

This role provides an avenue for those who are newer to YFGM to attend a Planning Weekend and fine out what happens there. It serves an important role in keeping committees accountable to YFGM as a whole, and provide fresh ideas and views on how YFGM should operate.

The Young Quaker is YFGM’s magazine and newsletter, produced three times a year by a team of co-editors. The role includes sourcing, editing, and compiling articles for the magazine.

Responsible for organising Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and other non-session
activities at YFGM (not including entertainments or epilogue); working with individuals and groups at YFGM to arrange particular sessions and activities.

The events coordinator’s role is to support and encourage YFGM Events, oversee the formation and operation of any Event Committees appointed by YFGM, providing long-term oversight, along with experience and expertise relevant to YFGM events.

The catering coordinator’s role is to help the caterers in the organisation of food and the planning of cooking and menus, and to act as a source of knowledge about catering for YFGM and to ensure a continuity of that knowledge.

YFGM Representatives to Committees Outside YFGM
Being part of the committee overseeing the Leaveners, the Quaker youth theatre and
performing arts group, and providing a link between YFGM and the Leaveners.

Meeting for Sufferings is the standing representative body entrusted with the general care of matters affecting Britain Yearly Meeting that occur when Yearly Meeting is not in session and require immediate action. The YFGM reps are YFGM’s link to the rest of BYM.

The Living Witness project aims to support the development of Friends’ corporate witness to sustainable living and explore ways of taking it to the wider community, and this role provides a link between Living Witness and YFGM.

This rep role involves representing the concerns and views of Young Friends to Quaker Life, one of the central departments of Britain Yearly Meeting, which is responsible for deepening the spiritual life of Friends and Meetings throughout the Yearly Meeting.

This rep acts as a two-way channel of communication between Young Friends and QPSW, bringing the peace and social witness concerns and skills of Young Friends to QPSW and raising awareness of QPSW’s work among YFGM.

This rep acts as a two-way channel of communication between Young Friends and the Northern Friends Peace Board, bringing the peace concerns of Young Friends to NFPB and raising awareness of NFPB’s work among YFGM.

This role involves distributing grants to members of the Religious Society of Friends or YFGM to relieve hardship or towards the cost of travelling in the ministry.
