Setting up a local YAQ meeting

Would you like to set up your own local Young Adult Quaker community meeting? Here’s how you can do it!

1. Contact your local Quaker Meeting. Ask if they’d be willing to host your Young Adult Quaker Meeting. When would their building be free for a Young Adult Quaker Gathering? This might mean working around bookings at your local Meeting House, if it is regularly hired out. We have a handy email template to get you started.

2. Pick a regular date and time for your local Young Adult Quakers to gather. This could be once or twice a month, in the evening on a weekday, a weekend Saturday afternoon. Pick a time you’re regularly available to coordinate!

3. Advertise! Post on the YFGM Discord, contact our media officer to have your gathering details put on the YFGM website, ask your Local Meeting to advertise it on their website, create a Facebook or Instagram page to create updates on there, create or join your local Young Adult Quaker WhatsApp group to build the community.

4. Once your meeting starts having regulars and you make friends in your Young Adult Quaker community, delegate tasks and roles! Someone can read the afterword, someone else can read the notices, someone else can be a spare keyholder, someone else can pour the tea, and EVERYONE can do the tidying and cleaning at the end of the meeting. A sustainable Quaker Meeting is one that has the whole community contributing, so give opportunities for everyone to contribute.

5. Don’t forget the biscuits!
